Above is a photo of Ben Jones taking a set of Calumet racehorses out for a morning work on his pony-horse. The below were four Calumet trophies that sold at the Jimmy Jones estate auction of August 16th, 2002. You must admit to be able to own an actual Calumet farm trophy, won by one of their race horses trained by H.A. (Jimmy) Jones is a rarity. The only known collection of Calumet trophies may now be viewed in Kentucky at the Kentucky Horse Park exhibit. Admittedly, these were won by minor horses in overnight events which is probably why Jimmy was able to keep them in his personal collection at home, yet the mystique of Calumet can still be felt.

This is a Wallace sterling silver plate which is 10" in diameter and weighs approximately 8 ounces. It was won by Fair Summer at Monmouth Park on June 21, 1961. Fair Summer was a two year old filly by Royal Palm (GB) 52 and out of Midsummer Fair 53 owned by Calumet Farms and bred by Mrs. G. Lambton of England. She was imported by Calumet in 1959. She has the great, The Tetrarch, in her pedigree. This filly earned $52,027 in her lifetime, winning 10 races from 1961 to 1964. She was second in one black type, the Mermaid Stakes. This trophy was won by her in an allowance race, named The Round Table with H.A. Jones as her trainer. It was a five & one half furlong race for two year old fillies. She was coupled with Giggles in this race as an entry. She moved between horses racing to the lead in the early stretch, quickly drew clear and was in hand at the end, winning in 1:04.4. This sterling silver plate is in perfect condition with hall marks on back. The Daily Racing Form chart of this race, her breeding/racing stats, a copy of the Estate Sale bill, and a certificate of authenticity of me as purchaser will be included with this plate.

This is a Wallace sterling silver plate which is 10" in diameter and weighs approximately 8 ounces. It was won by Helio Lea at Monmouth Park on June 22, 1961. Helio Lea was a bay mare by Duke's Lea and out of Helio Lark 54. She was bred by Calumet and earned $1,950 in one year of racing, 1961. This plate was won by her in a 5 & one half furlong maiden race at Monmouth. She was owned by Calumet and trained by H.A.Jones. She carried 118 pounds from the 6 hole and won by 3.5 lengths for jock, W. Blum in 1:08.1. She paid a nice $26.40 to win. To be included with the purchase of this plate will be the Daily Racing Form chart of this race, the mare's breeding/ racing stats, copy of the Estate Sale bill, and a certificate of authenticity of me as purchaser. This plate is in excellent condition with a very slight dent in the inside.

This is a sterling silver plate which is 10" in diameter and won by the three year old, Fango on October 18, 1960 at Garden State Park. Fango was a dark bay colt by Ponder and out of Bubbley, by Bull Lea. He was owned and bred by Calumet Farms and trained by H.A. Jones. This was a 6 furlong Allowance race for 3 and 4 year olds, non-winners of 3. Fango was unhurried trailing into the final turn, found room next to the rail closing with a rush through the stretch and reached the front in the final yards. He won by half a length in 1:12.2 under J. Sellers. He paid $8.20 to win. This plate is in excellent condition but has been mis-engraved both with spelling error of the horse's name (Fange) and the true date of the race (Oct 11, 1960). I will enclose with this plate the Daily Racing Form chart of the race, copy of the Estate Sale bill, and a certificate of authenticity of me as purchaser.

This is a smaller 6" sterling silver wine coaster engraved with Thistle Down, 1959 Silver Running, Ohio Derby. A hallmark is present on back. It weighs 5 ounces with a small ding on the surface. Of course, Calumet won the 1959 Ohio Derby with On-and-On, but I am not sure what relationship this little plate has to that victory. Certainly Jimmy was down as the trainer for On-and-On. This was in his possession and may have been a trainer's trophy, I do not know. I will include the Daily Racing Form chart of the Ohio Derby, a copy of the Estate Sale bill, and a certificate of authenticity of me as purchaser.
